Sustainability goals
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future.
At its heart are 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Sustainable Development Goals provide a framework to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice.
Sustainability goals
Goal 1: End poverty in all its forms everywhere.
Our aim is to provide rental housing that is affordable, safe and fit-for-purpose. In particular, we focus on offering this housing to the poor and vulnerable. Access to such housing not only enables people to live within their means, but also significantly contributes to their ability to achieve sustainable livelihoods. We are also committed to improving the energy efficiency of our properties, which helps reduce fuel poverty for some of our residents. We believe that access to affordable and adequate housing is key to reducing intergenerational poverty and increasing economic mobility.
Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
Protecting and promoting the health and well-being of our residents is a central element of our operations. Our aim is to adopt a holistic approach to sustainable urban development by investing in and developing properties that contribute to transforming urban areas into more open, inclusive, equitable and prosperous places to live. Our core focus in achieving this goal is the provision of housing that is adequate, safe, affordable and accessible. We believe the interplay between these complementary elements has a significant impact on people’s happiness and well-being.
Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
Our diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policy is focused on ensuring that we reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. We aim to adopt sound policies that promote gender equality. We are a strong proponent of ending all forms of discrimination against women everywhere. We support policies that give women equal rights and, in particular, equal access to economic resources. We are committed to the empowerment of women, ensuring they have equal rights to participate and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making.
Goal 11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
Our aim is to promote a circular economy across our supply chain – which involves sharing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products for as long as possible. In this way, the life cycle of materials and products is extended, with the objective of reducing waste to a minimum. We encourage the diversion of waste from landfills to more sustainable channels – such as waste to energy plants. We support sustainable procurement practices and the development of technological capacity to advance sustainable patterns of consumption and production.
Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
Our aim is to implement measures that (i) help us meet energy efficiency standards, and (ii) contribute to reducing CO2 emissions, across all of our properties (including both new and refurbished existing buildings). We are working to strengthen the resilience of our property portfolio against climate-related hazards and natural disasters. We are committed to implementing the measures required to improve climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning.
